As the concept of environmental protection takes hold, electric vehicles are becoming a new favorite in the automotive market. However, in the world of electric vehicles, the two genres of technology, hybrid and extended range, are often confusing. So what's the difference between hybrid and extended range? Let's explore.

First of all, from the point of view of the drive mode, hybrid and extended range are fundamentally different. Hybrid cars, especially hybrid cars, are based on traditional fuel vehicles with the addition of the three major components of electric vehicles, namely, motor, battery and electronic control system. This type of car can utilize both fuel and electric energy sources to drive the wheels through the combined action of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. On the other hand, add-on electric vehicles have the wheels driven directly by the power battery, and the internal combustion engine inside the car is not directly involved in the drive, but is used to charge the battery.

Second, in terms of power performance, hybrid cars usually have an advantage over add-on electric cars. This is because the internal combustion engine and electric motor of a hybrid car can work simultaneously to provide a stronger power output. In contrast, the internal combustion engine of a range-extended electric vehicle is only used for charging and is not directly involved in the drive, so it will fall short in terms of power.

In addition, there are also differences between hybrid and extended range in terms of license plate, range and purchase tax. Hybrid vehicles are blue licenses, while extended range electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids are both new energy vehicles and can use green licenses. In terms of range, plug-in hybrids have a longer range in pure electric mode and better fuel economy. As for the purchase tax, no purchase tax is required for the purchase of add-on vehicles and plug-in hybrids, while hybrid vehicles are required to pay purchase tax.

In a nutshell, hybrid and range-extender are the two major schools of thought in the field of electric vehicle technology, and they are distinctly different in terms of drive method, power performance, license, range and purchase tax. The choice of which school of technology to choose for an electric vehicle needs to be based on one's needs and preferences. Regardless of which electric vehicle you choose, it is a contribution to the cause of environmental protection, so let's work together for the future of the earth.
