Engine-assisted charging: When extra power is needed, the engine can charge the battery directly to provide additional energy. This is useful when traveling at highway speeds or when a temporary increase in power output is required.

External Charging: Some hybrid vehicle designs allow for external charging, where electricity can be fed directly into the battery via an outlet or charging station. This approach helps reduce fuel dependency and improves the environmental friendliness of the vehicle.

2. Series Hybrid Battery Charging Methods

In a series-type hybrid system, the engine does not drive the wheels directly; instead, it provides electrical energy through a generator to an electric motor, which drives the wheels. Battery charging method is different in series type system from parallel type system:


EXTERNAL CHARGING: Since the engine does not provide power directly, external charging is the primary way to maintain battery charge. Owners can charge via a charging station or household outlet to provide sufficient power when needed.

POWER RECYCLING: During braking, the electric motor can convert braking energy into electrical energy and store it in the battery through power recycling. This helps to improve energy utilization and range.

3. Series-parallel hybrid battery charging method

Some hybrid vehicles use a series-parallel hybrid system that combines the advantages of parallel and series systems. This type of system dynamically adapts battery charging to driving conditions and demand to achieve optimal energy efficiency and performance.


External Charging: External charging is an important part of a series-parallel hybrid system, allowing for quick charging while the vehicle is parked in preparation for a long drive or daily commute.

Power Recovery and Engine Assisted Charging: Depending on driving conditions, the system can intelligently switch to power recovery or engine assisted charging modes to maximize energy use and provide the desired power output.

The choice of hybrid battery charging method has a significant impact on the vehicle's performance, fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness.
